WC 2018 Naarden - Part 3/3

Country teams & Open tournament (sunday - day #4)

After the individual WC, the day after, there always are two more tournaments to be played. 1. Country teams. 2. Open tournament. In the country team tournament, the top players, per country, form a team, this is based on the individual results of the WC and the player's willingness to play for their national team. For other players, the open tournament is available, which often features 5 rounds.

The country team competition was played between: The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Greece. A shocker happened at the end, the team from The Netherlands(Tim, Max, Anjo, Edy) finished on place 3. Team UK (Richard, Alex, Charlie, Jonathan) took silver, while Greece (John, Gregory, Nikos, George) won the gold medal. Video of NL - GR

In the open tournament, Axel Hangg won the tournament. Yours truly finished on the second place and Ruben finished on place 3. Some players who were not present during the live WC showed up too. Video of open tournament awards

There's not very much I have to say about either tournament - neither are fully in my memory anymore. After three chaotic days, the fourth has kind of "blacked out" for me.

To conclude this WC 2018 series, the WC 2018 has been quite a success. The importance of the connection between live and online was shown once again. I hope this will be a trend that will continue; online players being willing to visit a live WC (or any tournament), increasing the size of the community,  increasing the playing field level, exchanging different and new ideas for growth and so on. When Stratego players unite, each with their own capabilities, I feel we can achieve a lot in terms of improvements and growth.

Given the feedback and my own observation, it is safe to say that the live WC generated a lot of positive energy among players and organisers.
